About the role

Early Childhood Assessors are responsible for:
  • Traveling regularly to assigned Early Childhood Centers to conduct assessments with children who have parental permission to participate in the study
  • Making in-person contact with selected preschool administrators, teachers, and children to discuss the study, answer questions, schedule assessments, and maintain participation
  • Collecting confidential information and administering computer-based standardized questionnaires
  • Independently managing administrative duties, including participating in conference calls and completing online trainings
  • Transmitting status updates and collected data as scheduled
  • Assuming full and legal responsibility for use and care of project-issued equipment
  • Safeguarding issued equipment and project materials against damage, loss, or theft and returning at the conclusion of the assignment or at supervisor's request
  • Submitting timely and accurate Time & Expense reports
  • Virtually attend scheduled meetings with other members of the project team
  • Administering a screening interview and recruiting respondents for a longer main interview, if selected
  • Maintaining regular access to a reliable wireless internet connection in your home for project work
  • Meeting weekly with supervisor via Zoom
  • Working a flexible schedule, based on preschool center availability and assigned cases  
  • ​Independently manage workload of approximately 2-3 early childhood center
  • Working with assigned staff at Early Childhood Centers to determine logistics of child assessments
  • Monitoring parental permission status for assigned children, document communications with center administrators, record updates related to scheduling and logistics and provide regular progress updates to field management
Qualifications Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Must be at least 21 years old at the time of employment
  • Must possess High School Diploma or GED
  • Comfortable working in preschool settings in diverse neighborhoods
  • Possess effective interpersonal and verbal communication skills through speech and listening
  • Fluency in English and Spanish through reading, writing, and speaking
  • Available for entire training and data collection period
  • Able to successfully complete training and required assessment certification
  • Must have a valid driver's license and reliable personal automobile available for business use
  • Comfortable using RTI issued tablet, laptop and other associated equipment
  • Access to password-protected Wi-Fi connection for data transmissions and administrative responsibilities
  • Able to keep project information confidential
  • Willingness to work in various types of weather conditions and after dark
  Preferred Qualifications for Ideal Candidates
  • Positive, self-motivated, curious, and enjoy interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective time, schedule, and workload management skills to meet set deadlines
  • Computer skills, namely email and internet proficiency
  • Be comfortable working in unfamiliar areas
  • Associate's degree, preferred
  • Background in Early Childhood education, Psychology, or related field preferred
  • Experience working on school-based studies, particularly in preschool settings
  • Experience conducting direct assessments with children, using measures such as the Research-based Early Math Assessment, Test of Preschool Early Literacy, or similar assessments
