We need a Software Engineer (Developer) to help Myriad Genetics, Inc. deliver innovative products that guide patients in making life-changing decisions. Our genetic screening and testing provide actionable insights, empowering people to make critical and timely healthcare decisions by using molecular diagnostic tests for prenatal care, cancer, depression, and other health conditions. We are excited about the future and remain committed to advancing the science of personalized medicine as we develop products to address unmet medical needs.

Each patient sample can contain thousands of mutations. Our tests are powered by an automated sequencing lab and in-house software that covers the full technology stack: robotics, automation, scientific compute, data pipelines, variant calling/interpretation, data visualization, risk calculations (population genetics), interpretation of mutations, of patients a year.

This is a REMOTE - WORK FROM HOME position with flex-work as an option if you are near a Myriad location.  

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

The software you write ensures accurate results for patients but also enables us to accomplish this goal at scale, delivering thousands of patient results per day. This will require you to: 

• Collaborate with clinical laboratory scientists, genetic counselors, laboratory directors, researchers, bioinformatics scientists and other stakeholders. The issues you will be solving are not pure software problems, our teams are inherently interdisciplinary.
• Apply software engineering principles to genomic constructs to build simple solutions to complex problems – 80% back-end with 20% front-end
• Own the lifecycle for shipping your code from design, implementation, testing, and maintenance 
• Make design decisions involving overall system architecture and implementation patterns to ensure future reliability, scalability, and flexibility of our clinical platform pipeline

ABOUT YOU

Solving these problems fundamentally requires software solutions. We are looking for candidates with: 

• 3+ years' experience as a software engineer, preferably full stack 
• Proficient with Java (preferred) or Python and a relational database system (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL) 
• Experience using Spring, Spring Boot, and a front-end framework such as React or Vue (or analogous tools) 
• Experience with Git, Docker, and AWS (or comparable cloud computing service)
• Academic or professional experience working with genomics and/or variant classification:
• Experience working with variant effect predictors (SnpEff, SpliceAI, Alamut)
• Experience with genomics databases/sets (HGMD, ClinVar, gnomAD, GWAS studies)
• Experience with HGVS naming and ACMG guidelines
• Experience with visualization tools such as dalliance, igv.js

Compensation is adjusted based on geographic location.
