Seasonal - Staff Coordinator and Lead Educator - Tanglewood 4-H Learning Center

Statement of the Job:

As the Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator at Tanglewood, April 13 to October 20, 2026, your role is pivotal in ensuring the success of diverse programs through mentoring and modeling of best practices and ways of being. Collaborating closely with the Director and program leadership team, you'll assist in planning, executing, and evaluating programs. You will serve as a mentor for staff, providing supervision, support, and feedback. The Staff Coordinator/Lead Educator supports the intangible magic of Tanglewood, blending education, engagement, and fun creatively. You have a deep appreciation for immersive educational experiences and are committed to creating positive, life-changing experiences for participants and staff. You will reside on-site throughout the seasons, with structured time off each week. You will serve as the Director on Duty during times when the Director is off grounds, sharing overnight responsibilities with the leadership team.

Stipend is $23,200 for 29 weeks, including paid training, paid in bi-weekly installments.

Qualifications:

Required: 

• You need a High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
• In accordance with Section 11.A. State of Maine Youth Camp Rule, "the camp director must be at least 25 years of age, except that a director of a day camp must be at least 21 years of age. The camp director must provide documentation of 16 weeks of administrative or supervisory experience in an organized camp."
• To assist with the 24 hour coverage of camp, must be able to serve as Director on Duty on a rotating basis or as needed.
• You need a minimum of 3 years of related experience working with youth and teaching in the outdoors, or equivalent
• Ability to serve as a University of Maine driver and drive 12-passenger vans
• You need to hold an additional certification that is value-added to keep our campers safe, like: 
  • Lifeguard certification
  • Wilderness First Aid and CPR certification
• You have a valid US driver’s license and are eligible to be authorized and approved as a university driver based on the Driver Administration Policy. 
• This camp is licensed by the State of Maine. You must meet the State of Maine requirement for driving vehicles, "Drivers of vehicles carrying campers must be at least 21 years of age and be approved by the camp’s auto liability insurer’s agent." 

Preferred: 

• You hold a higher additional certification that is specific to the outdoors, like: 
  • Wilderness Responder Certification
• You have a genuine motivation to work with children in a vibrant, high-energy outdoor setting where every day is an adventure.
• You demonstrate responsible and safe decision-making skills, ensuring a secure and enjoyable experience for all campers during outdoor programming
• You hold a First Aid and Basic Life Support certification or are eager to obtain one before the start date to ensure the safety and well-being of campers.
• You can lead groups in various outdoor environments, comfortably carrying a small backpack filled with teaching supplies and a first aid kit to support your activities.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, live in camp during the summer season, and work some additional evenings and weekends
• You have experience leading staff training or in-services 
• You have experience supervising staff and providing positive mentorship
• You have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive camp vehicles
