This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

We are looking for an experienced turbomachinery thermal analyst for our Lunar Lander for NASA’s Artemis mission. Work will include the complete life cycle of from requirements definition, analysis, design, development, assembly, verification, and operation on the moon!

We are designing and building clean sheet motor driven liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen pumps. You will generate 2d and 3d finite element analyses to predict the thermal states of turbomachinery components and assemblies to aid structural and clearance analyses. Relying on your fundamentals in heat transfer, you will anchor thermal models to test data and make recommendations for design changes and future test campaigns.

You will work directly with NASA and our National Team Partners as part of the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program. You will play a key role in developing the Lunar Transportation system that will return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Engineering or related technical subject area
  • 6+ years of experience in turbomachinery thermal and fluid analysis in ANSYS
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, flow, and thermodynamic first principles
  • Excellent analysis bookkeeping skills
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills with ability to directly collaborate with external parties including government and commercial entities
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Willingness to work on-site with occasional travel

Desired:

  • M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Experience with cryogenic applications and electric motor driven pumps
  • Experience in all phases of turbomachinery life cycle in flight vehicle applications
  • Experience in engineering analysis/support for disposition of Non-Conformance (NC) related to turbomachinery components

Compensation range for on site CO applicants is $102,383-$143,335

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is $111,690-$156,366
