This is a hybrid position. The selected colleague will work at an MUFG office or client sites up to four days per week and work remotely the remaining day(s). A member of our Talent Acquisition team will provide more details.

Position Summary:

We are looking to bolster our ECM coverage and execution team within our Capital Markets Group.  We are seeking a talented, experienced individual to join our team in a Senior Associate or Vice President role.  The successful candidate will drive the ongoing origination of equity capital markets transactions for corporate clients, including IPOs, Follow-ons, Convertible Issuance, ATM Programs and Share Buybacks.  Primary focus will be on client development and collaboration with partners across investment banking, financial sponsors and sales and trading. Candidates require a strong understanding of industry fundamentals and equity market dynamics to provide issuers with advice on execution strategies and financing alternatives.  Execution experience on a range of equity and equity-linked products and sectors is preferred but all knowledgeable ECM candidates are encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate relationships with MUFG corporate and financial sponsor clients and prospective clients across key industry verticals
  • Prepare bespoke solutions for clients, deal execution, maintain and build new client relationships from a product expertise perspective and expand the overall equity franchise
  • Collaborate with Global Corporate & Investment Banking as well as Financial Sponsor colleagues to identify ECM opportunities and develop pitch concepts / ideas
  • Prepare presentation material for clients across all sectors and topics within ECM including common share issuance (IPO & Follow-on), equity-linked alternatives, carve-outs, ATM programs and share repurchase
  • Lead and develop our team of associates and analysts responsible for:
    • Analyzing companies, sectors, deal activity, corporate filings, and shareholder data; constructing and managing internal deal and investor-related databases
    • Price and model equity-linked securities including convertible debentures and mandatory alternatives with cost of capital analyses, and call-spread overlays
    • Assisting in the preparation of underwriting applications, internal committee memorandums, market commentaries and internal deal approvals
    • Assist with the syndicate function, including prospectus drafting, due diligence, review of transaction documents including term sheets, mandate papers and credit agreements on MUFG-led deals
    • Assist in the execution of MUFG-led equity transactions, including the preparation of deal marketing materials and communication with external clients
  • Other various responsibilities as directed

Qualifications:

TECHNICAL SKILLS / COMPETENCIES

  • At least 5 years of professional financial experience in Capital Markets OR Investment Banking, including multiple years in ECM origination
  • Strong time management skills, ability to work flexibly under pressure with attention to detail and strong judgement
  • Experience leading deal teams and interacting with senior personnel internally and externally
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills
  • Deep understanding of equity capital markets, regulations, and industry dynamics
  • Developed skills in IPO valuations, comparable analyses, accretion / dilution, pro-forma capitalization tables, credit and financial analysis, accounting, and derivative mathematics
  • Advanced knowledge of Bloomberg, PowerPoint, Excel, Word
  • Proactivity and confidence in dealing with senior management at issuers and investors
  • Ability to integrate into a team and develop working relationships with MUFG staff in different cultures and geographies

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field (MBA and CFA Charterholders preferred)<
