Description of the Position: (Purpose of the Position): 

Support an intensive reading-and-writing-centered course by helping students develop ideas through writing, assisting with course logistics, and facilitating a few class discussions aligned with course themes and the CA’s interests.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Take attendance and communicate any concerns to the professor
  • Support students in unpacking ideas through writing (brainstorming, organization, clarity, revision habits—within the CA role and guidelines)
  • Hold or support office-hour-style help sessions as scheduled (as applicable)
  • Lead a few class discussions during the term on specific content identified by the professor and shaped by the interests of the class and the CA
  • Help foster an inclusive, engaged discussion environment (encouraging participation, respectful dialogue, thoughtful listening)

 

Qualifications: (Education/Experience/Skills)

  • Must have successfully completed a writing-intensive St. Olaf course (W2 or W3)
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to support peers in idea development and revision process
  • Comfort facilitating discussion and supporting students with varied confidence levels
  • Interest in U.S. dance history and cultural/historical analysis (coursework in dance history preferred)
