Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking to hire a Curriculum Supervisor for the Decatur Training Academy. The ideal candidate will serve as a working supervisor, interpret new or revised legislation and departmental policy, and develop a task planning analysis and implementation plan for the initiation of new training programs. In addition, they will develop and conduct annual training needs assessment, and contact, meet and develop relationships with officials from various state, federal, local and higher education institutions. Essential Functions

  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Interprets new or revised legislation and departmental policy to facilitate compliance in respect to staff and/or curricula development or revisions.
  • Develops a task planning analysis and implementation plan for the initiation of new training programs, inclusive of creating, training goals, student performance objectives, lesson plan, interactive and individual learning activities, time perimeters and an evaluation mechanism.
  • Develops and conducts annual training needs assessment.
  • Contacts, meets and develops relationships with officials from various state, federal, local and higher educational institutions to elicit grant and/or outside funding resources for program support.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with course work in law enforcement administration, education, sociology, or psychology.
  • Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a law enforcement or related public or business organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience establishing local operating policies for employee programs and implementing up to date policies and procedures by assessing training needs, analyzing feedback and using data to improve and update curriculum.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience coordinating assessment and utilization of resources for all levels of staff instruction.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience implementing curriculum as needed to meet criteria of new and changing policies.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience establishing annual mandatory training standards, distributing, and monitoring an annual training program.
  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience assigning work, providing for employee motivation and development, and establishing priorities among assignments.
