Job Summary
We are seeking a Principal Product Designer to lead and shape the design vision for Teragonia's product offerings. In this pivotal role, you will lead a globally distributed team of product, UI, and UX designers, ensuring the consistency and quality of design practices across diverse product and engineering teams. You will be instrumental in defining the design direction, driving innovation, and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to create cohesive, user-centered designs that align with our business objectives.
As the Principal Product Designer, you will work across the entire design lifecycle—from ideation and concept development to execution and iteration—ensuring that user needs are met while maintaining a high standard of design excellence. You will also mentor and guide the design team, fostering a culture of creativity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a global team of product/UI/UX designers, ensuring consistent design practices across multiple teams and projects.
- Develop and drive the design vision for new and existing products, collaborating with product management, engineering, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment with business goals.
- Oversee the design process from ideation through implementation, ensuring high-quality and user-centered designs that meet both functional and aesthetic requirements.
- Create and maintain design systems, ensuring a consistent user experience across all Teragonia products.
- Mentor and guide designers, helping them grow in their roles and ensuring they have the resources and support they need to succeed.
- Foster a collaborative and creative work environment that encourages innovation, risk-taking, and continuous learning.
- Establish and promote best practices for design within the company, ensuring adherence to industry standards and the latest design trends.
- Advocate for user experience throughout the product development lifecycle, including contributing to product strategy, design reviews, and feedback loops.
- Lead the creation of user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and final visual designs for product interfaces.
- Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards are met.
- Coordinate with other design leaders and departments to ensure cross-functional alignment and seamless execution of product design initiatives.
- Stay up-to-date on industry trends, tools, and emerging technologies to ensure that Teragonia’s design approach remains innovative and competitive.
Requirements
Necessary Qualifications
- Be located within the Chicago metropolitan area, or be willing to relocate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in product design, with at least 3 years of experience managing or leading design teams.
- Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of product and UI/UX design work, demonstrating the ability to think strategically and deliver results.
