Job Summary

Ensures Vistra Corp units are in compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations by developing and implementing environmental programs that maintain optimum operational flexibility, enhance business opportunities, while achieving Company goals. Involves multi-media (air, land, and water) regulations.

Job Description

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee and provide environmental support at the Big Brown Mine.
  • Manage and when necessary, act as liaison between environmental agencies (e.g., RRC, TCEQ, USACE, etc.) and provide expertise in environmental regulations as appropriate.
  • Plan, develop, and implement environmental projects as required or needed to support business operations.
  • Oversee consultants/vendors who support environmental projects.
  • Oversee, participate, and assist with Compliance Assistance Visits (CAVs) and inspections as necessary including final report preparation and corrective actions.
  • Oversee, generate, provide, and support, all air, water, and land/waste construction/installation permit and registration applications, renewals, and revisions to operating permits., This includes tracking deadlines, coordinating with facilities and assuring the issued permits provide maximum flexibility for operations, as necessary.
  • Implement and assist in review of new and proposed projects related to construction, operation, repairs, and renovations to ensure compliance with environmental regulations including the submittal of timely permit applications and obtainment of permits.
  • Support, prepare, and submit appropriate environmental notification, records, and reports including sampling, data input and reviews, Title V/CAAPP annual compliance certifications, annual emission reports, pond reports, Storm water, Waste Summaries and Receipts, Chemical Inventories, other quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports pursuant to air, land and water permitting and regulatory requirements, etc.

Education, Experience, & Skill Requirements

  • 8 years or more in agricultural or life sciences, geology, engineering, project management or equivalent experience preferred; Experience gained through college degree programs and/or certifications is applicable to above skills 
  • Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations (i.e., Railroad Commission of Texas, Texas Commission of Environmental Quality, etc.)
  • Broad-based knowledge of Luminant operations and company policies and procedures.
  • Incumbent must possess and demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate to peers, management, government officials, and the general public. Communication may include written and oral technical presentations and periodic updates to Luminant Senior Leadership, local state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Minimum education is HS Diploma or equivalency

  • Demonstrate considerable leadership skills and the ability to effectively develop trust and build relationships with peers, Luminant Leadership and outside regulatory agencies.
  • Broad-based knowledge of environmental compliance and corresponding regulations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively manage multiple activities at one time.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, including procedures development and implementation.
  • Experience with delivering communications and training related to environmental compliance, corrective actions, lessons learned, etc.
  • Basic computer skills with both word processing and spreadsheet/database applications.
