Position Highlights:
- Position: System Nurse Research Scientist
- Location: Evanston Hospital, Evanston, IL
- Full Time/Part Time: FT, 40 hours
- Hours: Monday-Friday
What you will do:
Research Educator/Mentor 50%
- Develops and coordinates education related to research and research related activities, including the nursing scientific process.
- Provides didactic education to facilitate nursing research.
- Provides mentorship to nurses and nursing teams at all levels and at all campuses.
Committee/Council Participation 10%
- Executive Sponsor and facilitator of the Nursing Research Council with clinical nurse co-chairs.
- Serves as a voting member of the IRB, representing nursing.
- Active member and provides leadership to guide the nursing Research & Innovation Council.
- Participates in other committees/councils/task force etc. as assigned
- Membership in the Magnet Steering Committee/Magnet Champion Meetings
Research Activities 10%
- Provides mentorship to nurses at all levels and at all hospital campuses to conduct and disseminate research activities.
- Assist nurses in the development and design of research projects; including preparing proposals for IRB
- Maintains tracking system for current nursing research, evidence based practice and quality improvement activities within nursing.
- Reviews nursing quality improvement projects to determine if the quality improvement project is a potential research study.
- Monitors progress of ongoing research studies to assist nurse research for meeting established deadlines and maintaining forward progress on research studies.
- Assist nurse researcher in the analysis of data, which includes statistical analysis.
- Mentor nurse researcher as to how to interpret and present research outcomes.
- Coordinate and collaborate with the Magnet Program Director regarding meeting Magnet expectations related to nursing research.
Presentations and Publications of Nursing Research 10%
- Maintain on the intranet ongoing/updated list of current research, publications, and presentations of nursing research.
- Identifies and communicates opportunities for nurses to present research on a local/national level; assisting nurses in completing calls for abstracts.
- Provides guidance for writing nursing research for publication, assisting nurse research through the process of application to completion of article for publication in scholarly journal.
- Coordinates an internal mechanism/activity for disseminating nursing research at on an annual basis.
- Collaborates with nursing leadership to establish a system of recognition for research-related achievements by nurses.
New Knowledge, Innovations and Improvements 10%
- Keeps abreast of scientific literature; assists in literature reviews and evidence-based practices.
- Assist in the evaluation of literature/best practices and the application of a new practice/innovation/improvement in nursing practice.
- Identifies funding opportunities for nursing research.
- Create environment of inquiry where nurses can bring questions/ideas regarding nursing practice and these questions/ideas potentially result in a research study.
- Facilitate and promote nursing exposure for podium/poster presentations to both internal and external audiences.
Magnet Designation 10%
- Responsible for providing the "table of research" required for the Magnet Document and any interim monitoring requirements.
- Writes the narrative for the Sources of Evidence (SOE) in the Magnet Document related to Nursing Research.
- Collaborates with the Magnet Program Director and Hospital Site Coordinators.
- Ensures the development, implementation and periodic evaluation of nursing research standards, policies and procedures that elevate nursing performance and are consistent with all applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Formulate and evaluates the system nursing research strategic plan.
- Implements research strategic planning and provides mentorship and guidance to new principal investigators in the scientific research process.
- Provides leadership in development implementation and evaluation of departmental nursing research and knowledge generation.
- Provides leadership and guidance for development of nursing research capabilities and funding.
What you will need:
- Education: Doctorate Degree is required. If doctorate is in a specialty outside of nursing, a baccalaureate or master’s degree in nursing is required.

- Current professional Nursing Licens
