Lead Assembler, Fabrication
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the department manager in coordinating and assigning tasks to team members to accomplish departmental goals. Under the direction of the Supervisor of Manufacturing Operations, assembles mechanical units, fabricated parts/components and/or electrical/electronic systems to make subassemblies, assemblies or complete units using hand tools, power tools, jigs, fixtures and miscellaneous equipment. Fits, aligns, calibrates and adjusts parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and product operating requirements; repairing units or products that have failed to meet requirements. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, heights, and risk of electrical shock which require the use of protective gear to ensure safety. Position Responsibilities:- Monitors production processes and focuses on process improvements.
- Provides specialized technical assistance to group members.
- Interacts with group members to implement solutions.
- Instructs and assists group members in interpretation of shop orders, job procedures, specifications, quality, safety, housekeeping and 5S requirements.
- Participates in onboarding and orientation procedures to ensure success of new hires.
- Checks all work to ensure quality standards are met.
- Provides input to Department Manager in performance evaluations.
- Timely and accurately communicates operational status to manager and peers.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods, techniques, and related equipment.
- A demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through others.
- Ability to read and interpret production schedules.
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred. Completion of some secondary/trade school technical and/or general business course is preferred.
- Requires a minimum of 3 years of similar work experience in assembly or construction experience, or equivalent combination of technical school, on-the-job training and work experience.
- Able to operate and use hand and power tools (pipe cutter, ratcheting, standard wrenches)
- Must be able to apply significant torque with hand tools throughout the entire work day (wrenches, ratcheting tools, channel locks, etc.)
- Able to read a tape measure.
- Able to lift and/or move heavy objects/components, frequently up to 25lbs. and occasionally up to 35 lbs.
- Requires manual dexterity with ability to make coordinated hand and finger movements to grasp, manipulate and assemble objects, and handle tools.
- Ability to work in repetitive motions and pressure involving fingers, hands, and wrists.
- Able to stand for prolonged periods on a concrete floor.
- Able to walk, reach with hands and arms, push, pull, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Must have demonstrated ability to communicate (speak, read, write) in English.
- Good math skills are preferred to interpret drawings and specifications.
- Able to work independently and with others.
- Wear PPE at all times
