As an interdisciplinary research institute, TDAI’s mission is to create a robust community of excellence in data-centric, translational and interdisciplinary research, scholarship and creative expression with impact in society. We achieve that mission in part by enabling faculty-led research, as well as providing training in data science.

TDAI’s Senior Researcher (Researcher 4) contributes to TDAI’s mission by leading or participating in a large variety of complex programs with significant, long-term impact on the institute. The Senior Researcher conducts individual research, collaborates on faculty research programs and teams, and trains the next generation of data scientists and researchers.

The Senior Researcher is responsible for leading and conducting independent foundational or applied research in a data science-related field, as well as collaborating on faculty research projects. Their individual research efforts may be in very focused areas within data science or in adjacent domains. The Senior Researcher participates in faculty-led, interdisciplinary research project teams by direct collaboration and via TDAI’s Data Science Consulting Services. This position focuses on research that aligns with TDAI’s strategic directions in foundations of AI and data science, responsible data science, health and AI, and environmental resilience and sustainability.

The Senior Researcher designs and delivers bespoke data science trainings, including data science/AI literacy general trainings to the campus community and external partners (e.g., basics of generative AI). They also lead and/or partner with TDAI faculty in implementing workshops on in-depth data science topics (e.g., foundational models).{Note: Roughly 50% of this position is focused on conducting research and publishing and writing grant proposals to bring extramural research funding into TDAI. Training researchers via workshops is performed as needed and customized to specific research needs.}.

Masters of Translational Data Analytics Program: The MTDA is an interdisciplinary, online program that upskills and reskills working professionals. The program consists of several partnering units with various roles: the program is administered by TDAI, housed in the graduate school, and taught by faculty and instructors from the departments of Computer Science and Engineering (College of Engineering), Statistics (Arts and Sciences College, ASC), and Design (ASC), as well as the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts and Design (ACCAD) and TDAI. The Senior Researcher is the primary owner that provides oversight to and administers the MTDA program.
