Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with R&D leadership, Medical Affairs and Marketing to understand hospital pain-points. Define workflows that enable solution driven applications by integrating multiple BD products

• Work with functional leaders to transition new projects from Concept into Product Development 

• Serve as a System-HW architect for infusion platforms

• Work with modular leads to find architectural optimization opportunities that reduce cost of sustainability efforts.

• Drive common architecture and standardization across multiple product platforms 

• Act as infusion Subject Matter Expert to help drive complex problems across platforms

• Ensure correct application of test strategies and methodologies based on standards and guidances (i.e. IEC 60601-1 & Infusion Pump lifecycle guidance)

• Safety Critical Systems: Understanding of safety-critical design principles and techniques, including fault tolerance, fail-safe mechanisms, and risk management processes.

• System Integration: Skills in integrating multiple subsystems and components, including pumps, motors, sensors, and user interfaces. Interface control methods and best practices.

• Documentation and Reporting: Proficiency in creating comprehensive technical documentation and reports for internal and regulatory purposes.

• Project Management: Strong project management skills to oversee the architectural design process, meet deadlines, and stay within budget constraints.

• HYBRID - 4 days per week ONSITE in San Diego, CA - 1 day REMOTE - Ideal candidate will reside within commuting distance.

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor of Science in an engineering field (Mechanical, Systems, Physics, Electrical, Biomedical, Software) required. Master's degree or PhD preferred.

• Minimum 10 years of growing responsibility in R & D technical engineering roles or a PhD in a relevant engineering discipline with 8 years of industry experience, with extensive, successful experience in product development and a clear understanding of quality management systems.

• Regulated industry experience (FDA, Automotive, Industrial, etc.)

• Experience with design for manufacturing, process validation and design transfer

• Familiarity with Mechatronics Analysis & Design.

• Experience leading a team of multi-disciplinary engineers.

• Project management experience for complex systems.

• Experience in a proven design process (e.g. DFSS) over multiple programs.
