Your Opportunity

Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Harquahala Operations team.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, at Harquahala, the Senior Specialist, Environment, Health, and Safety is accountable for the provision of HSE services to our Harquahala, Arizona facility and other US based operating units on an as assigned basis. This includes ensuring all units within their area of responsibility are aware of and in compliance with all applicable environment, health and safety legislation and regulations, internal CPC policies and reporting requirements. The candidate will also be required to provide guidance and support with respect to day-today health and safety matters.

You will contribute to our team by

• Act as a subject matter expert to employees, supervisors and managers to interpret, implement and ensure consistent application of internal environmental, health and safety standards and compliance with occupational health, safety and environmental regulations, permits and approvals.

• Prepare all necessary reporting as required by applicable facility permits (Title V, TIER II, etc.).

• Manage data for CEMS reporting and support operations with efficiency improvement opportunities.

• Coordinate and provide guidance to meet all stack testing requirements (RATA’s, Part 60, Part 75, NSPS and all other stack testing required by applicable permits).

• Support water sampling and reporting requirements as per permits and applicable regulations.

• Manages Hazardous waste and reporting.

• Support all requirements associated with Spill Prevention, Control, and Counter Measure Plan (SPCC) and emergency response plans.

• Prepare and/or support environmental, health and safety regulatory reporting and other Corporate reporting as necessary.

• Provide environmental, health and safety training as required by facility operations and management teams.

• Provide environmental, health and safety support for emergency response activities.

• Supervise environmental, health or safety consultants as required. Effectively manage scheduling and budget and monitor compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements, and mitigation of risks.

• Exercises sound judgement in the interpretation of statutes, regulations, codes and standards.

• Liaises with local government, public, industry and aboriginal authorities when required.

• Identifies emerging health and safety issues at the operational level and provides support on health and safety resolution.

• Develops and maintains documentation of site-specific environmental, health and safety procedures.

What you will bring to the role

Education:

• University degree in Engineering or Natural/General Sciences or Technical degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.

• Occupational Health and Safety Degree, Diploma or Certificate or CSP designation is considered an asset.

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years related experience.

• Strong understanding of environmental, health and safety legislation, laws, and regulations, and the ability to gather updates and changes.

• Thorough understanding of environmental policy, environmental aspects, and environmental, health and safety management systems.
