This role will foster collaborations between entrepreneurs and biomedical partners to address the critical but highly specific challenges faced by MedTech entrepreneurs.
The position will identify, understand, and communicate the sources of funding available in the ecosystem. To address this, the TechTeam Business Consultant will provide a concierge-style service to help navigate the Michigan Equipment Database, providing vital support in identifying specific scientific needs, facilitating access to equipment and trained personnel, and connecting entrepreneurs with experts for precise data analysis.
Further, this role will also capitalize on Michigan’s geographical strengths to accelerate cross-border alliances with Ontario counterparts, tapping into the expertise and innovation happening on both sides of the border. These partnerships will drive expanded collaboration across new markets, broaden access to resources, and enhance critical research opportunities for the entire region.
This assignment is the result of a strategic partnership between the MedHealth Regional Health Innovation Cluster, TechTown Detroit, the Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC).
Primary Duties:
- Enable access to specialized resources in Michigan and Ontario.
- Coordinate networking opportunities.
- Connect healthcare innovators with potential investors, purchasers, and entrepreneurial resources.
- Educate healthcare innovators on successful business models with a focus on understanding product commercialization, purchasing processes, and marketing.
- Develop approaches for improved engagement in cross-border collaboration.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor of Science.
- 5-years’ experience in an early-stage life science ecosystem.
- Understanding of stakeholders’ needs.
- Ecosystem development knowledge.
- Very strong ability to network.
- Ability to address the highly specific, yet critical challenges faced by MedTech innovators and help them scale their solutions.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Master or PHD.
- Prior consulting experience with startup businesses.
- Ability to articulate an understanding of the Michigan and Ontario life sciences ecosystems.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Management experience in a technology-based company.
Working Conditions: The Life Sciences TechTeam Business Consultant will work in Detroit, MI. Travel to client sites, ecosystem partners, and team meetings throughout Michigan will be required as needed.
Salary & Benefits: $65,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience.
