Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Space & Launch Division's Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) program is looking for Senior Software Platform Deployment Engineer in Colorado Springs, CO.

Are you passionate about cloud computing, distributed systems, on-premises cloud native, and working with open-source technology for edge computing? The PTES program is seeking a Kubernetes Software Engineer to design, build, deploy and maintain the management, control, and data plane components of a high-performance Kubernetes-based edge system. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, drive technical design reviews, provide feedback and code-reviews. They will also help mentor and grow the team.

The PTES program is developing a new Global Military Satellite Communications (MILSATCOM) Ground System that will manage transmission of protected tactical waveform - a type of secure, anti-jam communication - over Boeing-built Wideband Global SATCOM (WGS) satellites and terminals.

As a member of the team, you will be involved in the entire development life cycle, from idea creation and development, all the way through to maintenance and support of the customer’s delivered system.  These positions will place you in roles where you have the opportunity to make an impact on the results of our project.  The PTES team offers a collaborative mentoring environment where you can learn, to mentor others, and be a part of establishing the future of our organization.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead team for platform deployment across multiple environments meeting diverse standards for repeatability
  • Support Agile development teams to delivering an end-to-end automation of deployment, monitoring, and infrastructure management in a cloud environment. Decompose complex requirements and capabilities into executable discrete user tasks
  • Perform Windows and Linux system administration
  • Use a variety of scripting and automation technologies including bash, groovy, python, terraform, ansible, helm, docker to configure development, testing and production environments
  • Employ GitOps techniques and tooling (e.g., ArgoCO, Flux, Fleet) to declaratively manage environments
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, upgrade and maintain kubernetes clusters (microk8s, rke2, rancher) and microservice deployments
  • Deploy, configure, monitor, troubleshoot, upgrade and maintain a wide variety of CI/CD and Agile Team tooling including JFrog Artifactory, Nexus Repository, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Bitbucket, SonarQube, Confluence, Jira, and similar tools
  • Perform tasks across a wide spectrum of environments include AWS, DoD Private Clouds, and on-premises data centers
  • Work together with program vendors, development teams, and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Demonstrate excellent collaboration, communication, and coordination skills
  • Be positive with a growth mindset, embracing collaboration, challenges, and ambiguity in a complex technical environment

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance
  • 5+ years of professional platform design and deployment, integration and/or analysis experience
  • 5+ years of experience with microservice architectures utilizing Docker or Kubernetes for container orchestration
  • 3+ years of experience with Identity Management, certificate services and secrets management in a cloud environment
  • 3+ years of experience using automation tools (e.g., Docker, Terraform, and Ansible) to deploy/configure infrastructure and applications and developing automated testing
