Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks to hire an Account Technician. This position performs routine accounting work involving independent performance of complex transactions and is responsible for the overview of obligation balances. Utilizes the Financial Operating and Administration system (FOA) and Knowledge Lake scanning system.
Essential Functions
- Performs technical accounting work and develops and maintains master files and tables used for district and departmental edits of accounting/budgetary documentation in conjunction with the departmental automated accounting system, Fiscal Operations and Administration (FOA).
- Advises district bureau personnel of the availability of funds.
- Monitors appropriation and obligation balances, reviews contracts, projects budget surpluses and deficits, and takes appropriate corrective action.
- Creates official expenditure documentation in district, department, and Comptroller records through the independent interpretation and application of accounting and budgetary coding on vendor payments, involving both operating and non-operating accounts, processed via FOA.
- Reconciles monthly vendor statements to district accounts payable records.
- Performs other duties, as required or assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college and completion of an approved training course or three years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
- Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

- Prefer working knowledge of accounting techniques.
- Prefer working knowledge of office methods and procedures.
