Raytheon is seeking a Mechanical Engineer I to help lead new product development within the Electronic Warfare (EW) Mechanical Engineering Subsystems Design section within the Mechanical Optical Performance Analysis and Electronic Warfare (MOPA&EW) Department. The section specializes in the design, integration, verification, and production of digital processors and RF receiver subsystems for airborne platforms.  The candidate participates in the mechanical development supporting a variety of programs in Goleta, California. Key interfaces will be with other sections across the Department, other Engineering disciplines, as well as internal customers leading the supporting programs.

What You Will Do

  • The Mechanical Engineer I will perform conceptual and detailed mechanical design of Antennas, RF products/sub-systems, High Density Electronic packaging designs and Electronic components/devices for application in ground, sea, and airborne defense.
  • Responsibilities include the design of structures, mechanisms, thermal systems, and electronic enclosures. Candidate will be expected to follow established procedures and instructions while working closely with program/functional supervision to ensure the overall design objectives are met with the design.
  • Contacts are primarily with the immediate section manager, team lead, project leaders, and other personnel (peers) within the applicable program.
  • This role will require Special Access Program (SAP) admission and potentially submittals into other program areas as well. Travel requirements will be tailored to program specific needs (test events, fit-checks, gate presentations, etc.).
  • The candidate shall be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and maintain positive relationships and satisfaction with functional and program leadership.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Bachelor’s in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • This position requires 12 months or less relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
  • Experience in mechanical engineering design and product support through educational coursework or prior intern experience.

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Ability to apply basic principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Experience with 3-D modeling and analysis using Creo or other tools.
  • Knowledgeable in reading mechanical fabrication and assembly drawings.
  • Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) analysis for drawings.
  • Direct experience in developing detailed mechanical designs and documentation packages for RF, Electronic and/or mechanical systems. Ability to draft communications, create, and deliver presentations.
