The opportunity: 

The Manager, Vocational Rehabilitation Services includes supervisory responsibilities to assist the Associate Director, Vocational Rehabilitation Services in managing the vocational team in support of Sun Life Integrated Absence, Disability and Accommodation services.

In this role, you work within a team environment among a peer group and with key business partners to service client needs related to absence, disability and accommodations. Additionally, you are responsible for your team performance and meeting the established operational area standards for the professional management of both routine and complex claims for Accommodation and Disability Management.  

How you will contribute: 

Plans and directs the work of Vocational Rehabilitation Consultants Consultants.  Monitors work flow to ensure continued prompt and accurate claims service.

Supervises staff, with responsibility for hiring, performance management, and coordinating training.

Assists in development and implementation of Clinical Services model to guide and standardize disability claims workflow.

Performs quality reviews including input and coaching staff related to quality measures and feedback. This includes performance management and training for staff as identified by QA and other mechanisms of feedback.

Oversees appropriate utilization of internal and external vocational, ergonomic or the like services, including vendors.

Participates in strategic discussion and planning for Vocational Rehabilitation Services department.

Identifies problem areas and develops, implements and evaluates procedures to correct the problem which will lead to more accurate, prompt vocational service to the claims organization and Sun Life Clients. Puts emphasis on increasing the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the unit and ensures uniformity and consistency in all procedures.

Assists in developing and monitoring performance metrics that focus on customer service, risk and return to work impact, timeliness, quality assurance, and leadership and talent development. This includes assisting the Associate Director during hiring and onboarding new staff.

Accurately prepare periodic reporting demonstrating staff activity and impact on key performance metrics and objectives as well as Client needs as outlined by product and service measures.

Participates in educational seminars, conferences, client presentations and association meetings to increase knowledge of the field of vocational rehabilitation services.

Assists in identifying areas of continuous improvement for developing updates to procedures to improve service to the claims organization and Sun Life Clients.

Participate in research and education activities for the vocational rehabilitation services team and assists with the training of vocational and claim / accommodation staff.

Recognizes the value of professional networking and idea sharing within the industry and seeks opportunities to present to peers or has sat on panels in industry meetings.

Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and negotiate to  achieve results through influencing others within the department/ organization, both bottom up and top down

Superior knowledge of Vocational Services and the technical expertise the team provides to the claims and absence/ accommodation organization.      

What you will bring with you: 

Master’s degree in relevant/related field; such as Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling

Minimum of 5+ years of direct experience in relevant/related field; vocational rehabilitation, absence and ADA Accommodations services and/or disability insurance industry
