$60,000.00 - $69,500 USD annually

The General Ledger (GL) Accountant is responsible for maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the organization’s general ledger. This role ensures timely and accurate preparation of financial reports, account reconciliations, and compliance with accounting standards. The GL Accountant collaborates with the accounting team to support month-end and year-end close processes while identifying opportunities for process improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; required.

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), preferred. 

  • 2-4 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in general ledger or financial accounting, auditing and/or financial analysis or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and update the general ledger to ensure all transactions are accurately recorded

  • Perform monthly account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accruals, and other balance sheet accounts

  • Prepare journal entries, including adjustments, accruals, and reclassifications.

  • Ensure accurate and timely closing of books, adhering to month-end and year-end deadlines

  • Support management in generating reports for internal and external stakeholders

  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline GL processes and enhance efficiency.

  • Collaborate with other departments to address financial discrepancies and resolve issues

  • Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules, as needed.

  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing accurate financial data.

  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial analysis

  • Provide Grant support daily, answering questions, reclassifying expenses and creating journal entries as needed.

  • Assist in reviews of financial and internal controls to meet management objectives and ensure the safeguarding of assets

  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles(e.g., GAAP) and USFRCS.  

  • Support annual financial audit by preparing and providing necessary data

  • Support the management of chart of accounts and accounting system

  • Provide technical supports and trainings to sites as needed

  • Keep abreast of new legislation/developments which affect the budget and assists in interpretation to appropriate district-wide personnel and administrators

  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle, Sage Intacct)

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial accounting principles, practices and procedures.

  • Knowledge of internal control systems and procedures.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Skill in performing complex numerical calculations.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
