CHS operates 71 acute-care hospitals and more than 1,000 other sites of care, including physician practices, urgent care centers, freestanding emergency departments, occupational medicine clinics, imaging centers, cancer centers and ambulatory surgery centers.   Summary:   The Biomed Technician II manages work order control, PM schedules and generation; parts purchase request and equipment history records.  Assists with staff training, in-services, policy and procedures, regulatory compliance and software data management.  Establishes and maintains supporting technical literature, such as manufacturer’s literature, references standards, specifications and other documents necessary for supporting the Biomedical Program.  Performs preventive maintenance, safety tests, incoming inspections, installation, troubleshooting, repair, calibration, for all patient care equipment.  Serves as an advisor to appropriate hospital committees.  Serves as an advisor to an appropriate hospital committee.  Demonstrates cost-effective decision making skills. Travels to CHS facilities may be required to perform scheduled / unscheduled maintenance on hospital equipment. Performs all other duties assigned.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities   
  • Understands the concept of Preventive Maintenance. Demonstrates knowledge of codes and standards, guidelines and test procedures used to verify performance.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and repair medical and non-medical equipment according to OEM standards using test equipment.
  • Understands the importance of documenting the maintenance history of medical equipment.  Completes documentation for scheduled and unscheduled work performed. work performed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medical equipment and has a good understanding of its use in the medical environment. Understands the costs of repairs, can disposition equipment and recommend repair/replacement based on costs. 
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and ability to provide technical and clinical support. Acts as a mentor to other team members. 
  • Demonstrates a cooperative attitude. Displays a willingness to accept new tasks. Requires no supervision and is a self starter performing routine tasks without being directed to do so.
  • Uses designated locations to store spare parts, incoming and outgoing parts and equipment. Uses “tags” to identify equipment / parts status. Promptly orders spare parts and when required ensure parts are “return to vendor” (i.e., exchange parts, cores, etc.)
  Qualifications  
  • Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology from accredited college or military medical repair specialist school or equivalent electronic training and experience, required.
  • Required Experience: 3-7 years of industry experience or military setting with electronics background.  Field service maintenance with a medical equipment maintenance vendor is also acceptable.
  • Required License/Registration/Certification: Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Preferred License/Registration/Certification: Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation, AAMI, certification is a plus.
  • Computer Skills Required: Ability to use a word processor, spreadsheet software, and database.
