Emergency Preparedness Planner
Job Summary
Serves as an Emergency Preparedness and Response Planner for a large community health department in Southwest Florida. Collaborate with team members in the Office of Safety and Preparedness (OSP) to develop, write, and maintain emergency response and recovery plans and supporting annexes utilizing the Public Health Preparedness (PHEP) Capabilities framework. Provides expertise, guidance, and coordination for developing and implementing disaster resiliency programs, training, and exercises that meet the National Preparedness mission goals of mitigation, prevention, protection, response, and recovery.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Planning, coordinating, and executing emergency and recovery activities related to Strategic National Stockpile, Medical Counter Measure capability and capacity, and developing, revising, and maintaining the agency’s Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), including supporting annexes and appendices. Ensures all emergency preparedness plans maintain alignment with state and federal requirements
- Develops and presents emergency preparedness training and exercises for all staff. Identifies and recommends relevant training opportunities for DOH-Sarasota staff and informs leadership of training opportunities that will enhance the agency’s emergency response capabilities. Participates in local, state, and regional disaster preparedness exercises to enhance capabilities within the department’s operations
- Provides support for Medically Dependent Evacuation Shelters. Ensures the agency properly documents all emergency response activities per FEMA requirements
- Collaborates with planning team members to maintain the DOH-Sarasota Emergency Preparedness Employee SharePoint/Microsoft Teams repositories for preparedness information, including emergency response job action sheets, assignments, and staff training. Provides timely training information and guidance, including Just-In-Time-Training (JITT).
- Coordinates special projects that align with the agency’s emergency preparedness goals, collaborating with other divisions, community partners, county and municipal governments, and local businesses. Facilitates educational sessions and training and coordinates community meetings as needed. Meets special funding and grant requirements as necessary
- Provides guidance and support to the Sarasota Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD), Southwest Florida Healthcare Coalition, and other community partners with technical expertise, advice, and coordination for emergency planning and response-related activities
- Provides periodic CPR training sessions for DOH-Sarasota and Sarasota County Human Services
