Title and Summary

Director, Content Design — Foundry CX&D

Overview

We are looking for a highly seasoned Content Designer who’s interested in applying their expertise to new payments products. You’ll join a growing Content Design team within the Customer Experience and Design (CX&D) team. We’re part of Mastercard’s Foundry, an interdisciplinary group driving innovation and design thinking forward within the company.

In this role, you’ll lead content strategy and creation for complex products and ecosystems. The ideal candidate excels at content strategy and UX writing, possesses strong leadership skills, thrives in a dynamic environment, and wants to learn and grow.

As a B2B2C company, we need to ensure that our products provide best-in-class experiences for both our customers and theirs. Working alongside UX designers, researchers, and product managers, you’ll focus on when, where and how information is presented in a product so it makes sense and tells a cohesive, compelling story. The role is based in NYC with some hybrid flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Draw on deep subject matter expertise and rigorous research to craft audience-focused, accessible content that differentiates our products. That could include product storytelling, messaging, UI copy, verbal identity, IA, content testing, localization, support content, etc.
• Proactively lead content design work on projects of large scope and complexity, including scoping, resourcing, reporting and timely delivery of high-quality work that meets stated goals.
• Deliver successful outcomes by influencing strategic direction, ensuring alignment, managing risks and driving decision making with senior leaders and execs.
• Contribute to the development of best-in-class content design standards and best practices for Mastercard, relying on research and expert understanding of heuristics and patterns.
• Implement tools and technologies that support the efficiency of Content Design work at scale.
• Lead cross-functional workshops and working sessions to drive decisions and creative output.
• Oversee and direct the work of less senior team members. Manage the growth and development of direct reports.
• Evangelize Content Design within Mastercard and actively contribute to the internal CX&D community, promoting exchange of learning, best practices and new ideas.
• Model solid judgement and help foster an inclusive, engaged, and supportive team culture.

About You
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• Experience leading the content strategy of web and mobile experiences in complex product ecosystems, ideally B2B2C, with positive results
• Demonstrated expertise collaborating with cross-functional teams on fast-moving, early-stage products (start-up experience is a plus)
• Proven ability to synthesize input from multiple areas (testing, feedback, metrics, etc.) to drive continual improvements
• Superb writing and communication skills
• Advanced ability to package and explain work to wider audiences and influence decision making
• Experience in payments (or adjacent fields) and people management experience are both preferred
