Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a motivated Corrections Utilities Operator at Vandalia Correctional Center. The successful candidate performs paraprofessional, semi-skilled work in the maintenance and operation of several types of furnaces and boilers. Essential Functions

• Confirms all high low level pressure boilers are operational.  
• Directs and trains individuals in custody assigned to boiler room. 
• Confirms all high- and low-pressure boilers have the proper chemical water balance according to the Illinois State Water Survey.
• Prepares Inventory on all fuels in stock and prepares reports of same.  
• Provides assistance to other maintenance department staff in emergency situations, heavy equipment operation, over the road tractor and trailer equipment.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
