This job provides oversight and makes decisions related to patient flow including directing and coordinating bed control, including all admissions and transfers within the hospital along with parallel processing of EVS and Transport operations related to patient flow. This job is responsible for the coordination, triage, registration, and communication of transfer and consultation requests, determining the best course of action for the patient, physician, and hospital through working with a multi-disciplinary team.

Education

Required – Associate’s degree in Nursing, Science or related field.

Preferred - Bachelor's degree in Nursing.

Work Experience

Required - 3 years of clinical experience.

Preferred - Supervisory experience or transfer/call center experience.

Certifications

Required - Must be licensed in the appropriate state to practice professional nursing (RN).

Preferred - Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Certification in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) from the American Heart Association, Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from the American Heart Association.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

·         Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of required job information.

·         Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software packages specific to role.

·         Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

·         Basic knowledge of Share point, Microsoft Excel, and Word.

·         Maintain professional and technical knowledge and required licensure and certifications through continuous education and professional development.

Job Duties

  • Provides clinical oversight and critical thinking through the daily patient flow and bed placement decisions.
  • Supports the hospital’s administration, management, and nursing staff in achieving organizational goals set to provide patient-centered care while maintaining the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Facilitates professional relationships between leadership, medical staff, and interdisciplinary teams to provide patient room assignments based on patient diagnosis, acuity, and patient flow.
  • Evaluates and facilitates staffing needs in collaboration with the nursing units, utilizing resources for capacity surge and patient flow escalation plans.
  • Completes accurate data collection, monitoring, and evaluation.
  • Completes rounds and supervises day-to-day operations of the nursing units.
  • Participates in semiannual telemedicine, business development, and hospital outreach activities.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.
  • Other related duties as required.
