Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position serves as the Director of the Public Health Nutrition Program for the Florida Department of Health in Lake County and is responsible for the management of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) and any funded comprehensive nutrition program activities. Directs and oversees all WIC functions and program services to ensure consistent adherence with state and federal regulations.  Incumbent is expected to comply with and ensure staff’s compliance with all WIC and DOH operating procedures and directives including information materials and equipment security. The incumbent of this position is responsible for administrative activities relating to WIC including budget preparation, mentoring and supervision of employees and collaborating with community partners. Directly oversees all nutrition program plan reviews and compliance audits. Integrates maternal and child nutrition services with appropriate health department programs and other community programs. Monitors on-site operations of WIC services at all Lake and Sumter WIC sites and program compliance through delegated quality assurance reviews.

 

Responsible for the supervision of staff including appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, having the authority for hiring, and taking disciplinary action or effectively recommending such actions. This individual will be responsible for all supervisory duties including, but not limited to, hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting performance appraisals, planning, and directing their work, approving leave, and taking disciplinary action as appropriate. Oversees and manages the annual budget for nutrition and breastfeeding program services and ensures appropriate fiscal implementation and accountability. Contributes to the organization’s culture of performance excellence by actively seeking to improve personal and organizational performance through measurement, analysis, knowledge management, and process improvements and participation in performance management committees, councils, and/or workgroups. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the current science and practice of food and nutrition, dietetics or food service.  Knowledge of the concepts and theories of nutrition or dietetics as it relates to growth, development, health or disease.  Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.  Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.  Ability to interpret anthropometric, biochemical, dietary and clinical data.  Ability to provide nutrition education to others.  Ability to develop nutritional assessments and develop nutrition care plans.  Ability to provide counseling and/or referral services to promote health and normal nutrition.  Ability to plan, organize and direct employee work assignments and evaluate the work of employees.  Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports.  Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.  Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.  Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.  Bilingual English and Spanish language is preferred.

 

Qualifications:

Minimum –

  • Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. This may include working in a special needs or Red Cross shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural
  • Currently have a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition science, community nutrition, clinical nutrition, or dietetics
  • Currently licensed in Florida as a Dietitian/Nutr
