Position Title: Director of Culinary Services
FLSA Status: Exempt
Job Summary:
The Director of Culinary Services is responsible for the leadership and management of the Food Services Department. This role ensures the provision of high-quality, nutritious meals in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations while fostering a safe, clean, and customer-focused dining environment. This position oversees all culinary staff including cooks, servers, aides, and dietary supervisors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Departmental Management & Leadership (30%)
- Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate daily operations of the Food Services Department.
- Ensure compliance with dietary regulations and sanitation standards.
- Supervise and support culinary team members including scheduling, staffing, and professional development.
- Maintain productive relationships with other department leaders to coordinate services and special events.
- Conduct unscheduled inspections and rounds to ensure service excellence.
- Food Quality & Resident Satisfaction (20%)
- Develop and maintain standard recipes and menus including special and therapeutic diets in collaboration with clinical staff.
- Visit residents to evaluate satisfaction and dietary preferences.
- Ensure meals are palatable, nutritious, and served on time.
- Lead ongoing quality assurance initiatives focused on improving resident dining experiences.
- Administrative Operations (20%)
- Oversee budget planning and cost containment for food, supplies, and labor.
- Maintain accurate records of menus, food inventory, safety drills, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate food orders, vendor management, and ensure proper storage and rotation practices.
- Staffing, Hiring & Training (15%)
- Recruit, interview, and hire culinary team members.
- Conduct new employee orientation, in-service education, and performance evaluations.
- Provide leadership through coaching, counseling, and corrective action as needed.
- Support a team culture focused on respect, professionalism, and resident-centered service.
- Compliance and Training (10%)
- Follow all HIPAA privacy regulations, maintaining confidentiality for residents and staff.
- Attend all mandatory in-services, safety drills, and training sessions.
- Provide exceptional customer service through compassionate and empathetic care.
- Maintain awareness of changes in dietary regulations and ensure staff compliance.
- Other Duties as Assigned (5%)
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate Degree or equivalent continuing education in related field.
