Essential Functions:

  • Provides expertise on the development and the implementation of the Actuary Department’s rating engine development, maintenance and rating element capture strategies.

  • Leads the development of solution specifications for the policy administration system's rating engine and rate change monitoring tools and validates implemented solutions are compliant with identified specifications. 

  • Partners with business units to gather information about their data analytics needs, business requirements, desired rating algorithm attributes, and/or desired rating component capture needs.

  • Performs research and analysis of data elements or rating algorithms, acquires necessary data and elements, and develops and executes associated testing plans.

  • Serves as leader for project execution strategies and estimation of timelines and data deliverables.

  • Assigns customer data extraction value and prioritizes requests in order of most critical to business partners and projects.

  • Ensures the planning and performance of highly complex data and/or element assignments, including data/element capture, aggregation, comparison, and extraction, for Actuary, including the parsing, joining, standardizing, cleansing, consolidating and filtering of data across inter-related data platforms to create desired outputs that can be leveraged by business users.

  • Manages stories and subtasks, working with team members to assess available capacity and develop agreeable customer timelines for the most efficient data solutions to business needs.

  • Provides project work direction to actuarial team members and stakeholders and advises leadership of any potential issues and delays.

  • Provides expertise for cross-functional projects, including pricing enhancement research teams, line of business deep dives, in-depth industry vertical analysis, and branch business planning.

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in undertaking project segments and corporate initiatives involving assigned applications, business area datasets and source systems.

  • Collaborates as appropriate with IT partners to develop solutions.

  • Leads the development and execution of testing procedures to ensure quality of data and work products.

  • Troubleshoots and corrects complex project problems involving data and programming logic errors.

  • Performs peer reviews of work to maintain the integrity of the work product.

  • Proactively identifies data quality issues and immediately communicates issues to the appropriate technical steward for data fixes.

  • Ensures all processes and projects are compliant with data governance policies and statutory requirements.

  • Prepares and maintains documentation related to assigned data, reports and processes in accordance with best practices, including disaster recovery.

  • Mentors and trains other team members on programming techniques, system functionality, and relational database structure.

  • Proactively engages in professional development related to the insurance industry, technology, data platform, reporting tool changes, statistical analysis, data management, and computer programming skills.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in computer science, actuarial science, data science, mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience

  • Seven years of experience in data management, data analysis, or insurance analytics or related experience

  • Insurance experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent planning skills in the areas of data management/extraction or insurance rating/monitoring intelligence

  • Excellent programing capabilities and/or insurance rating knowledge, including knowledge of at least two computer languages, such as R, Python, SQL, Visual Basic, JAVA or PostGreSQL

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and PowerBI and Word

  • Strong knowledge of system interactions and available data platform environments

  • Superior knowledge of analytical and data terminology, concepts and theory
