 The Role

Save the Children’s U.S. Programs (USP) division is committed to ensuring that all children in rural America have a healthy, strong foundation to thrive as learners and in life. Our contribution to a full cradle-to-career continuum is focused on the early years, birth through elementary school; and our goals are to increase kindergarten readiness and grade-level literacy and math proficiency for children in under-resourced rural communities. Save the Children does whatever it takes to be there for children in. Always at the ready, we are among the first to respond and the last to leave, staying as long as it takes to help children and families recover from their losses, restore their lives and build resilience for years to come.

As the Lead Associate, Community Impact, you’ll be integral to our work in helping vulnerable children achieve a brighter future. You will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the community engagement process in target communities across the state. Working closely with state and national program design, implementation and collective impact teams, you will be responsible for establishing and maintaining early childhood-focused community partnerships, convening local working groups, conducting comprehensive community assessments, developing results-oriented programmatic blueprints, and building community capacity through advocacy, targeted outreach, training and technical assistance.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Community Engagement (50%):

• Mobilizes, educates, and motivates members of the community to analyze and address social and systemic barriers to children’s education, health and wellbeing.
• Establishes and expands local and state-wide networks, convening a wide variety of stakeholders from different communities and building awareness and support of Save the Children’s programs and initiatives across the state.
• Identifies partners to contribute programs and services, aligns contributions, and coordinates community-wide events, activities, and distributions.
• Facilitates community meetings and leads members through the development and execution of action plans with shared goals and metrics that drive population-level results.
• Facilitate cultural exchange and understanding by organizing and hosting events that celebrate native traditions, art, music, and cuisine.
• Ensure that all community events and programs are accessible and welcoming to members of native communities, addressing any barriers or challenges they may face.
• Provide culturally sensitive support and resources to native individuals and families, recognizing and addressing unique needs and challenges.
• Continuously educate oneself and the broader community about the history, culture, and contributions of native communities, promoting awareness and appreciation.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to incorporate indigenous perspectives and practices into organizational policies and practices.
• Plans, monitors and manages community projects from initiation through completion.

Training and Technical Assistance (30%):

• Strengthen community capacity to influence issues concerning children, empowering community members to hold government, schools, businesses and private organizations accountable for policies and programs that directly impact the community.
• Coordinate with internal teams to deliver training opportunities to partners across the state in the areas of child development, early literacy and math, Kindergarten readiness, child protection and advocacy.
• Provide administrative and logistical support for onsite and remote training and networking events.

Data Collection and Reporting (20%):

• Maintain applicable programmatic and community engagement databases to facilitate and lead efficient and effective contact and relationship management.
