Job Summary/Purpose
Manage the development and implementation of EML’s plans as a participant in MISO’s reliability, economic transmission, and resource interconnection planning processes. This includes collaborating and sharing knowledge across multiple business units to evaluate and develop integrated resource planning strategies, including those utilizing new and innovative products that meet both industrial, commercial, and residential customer needs and company objectives. Knowledge of transmission, distribution and/or generation planning processes will aid in this effort. This position is critical to EML’s interaction with regulators related to transmission, distribution, and resource integration.
Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Responsible for the EML’s transmission planning activities in MISO including participation in the MTEP processes for long-term reliability and economic planning as well as Long Range Transmission Planning. This includes overseeing the development of optimized project strategies to support EML’s resiliency efforts and may include transmission, distribution, or non-wires alternative projects.
- Make customers more successful by directly supporting EML customer service managers, industrial account executives, economic development managers as they engage customers to developing innovative project strategies and sustainability partnerships.
- Testify in regulatory proceedings, such as CCNs, Rule 7 Notifications, rulemakings, and recovery proceedings, on matters related to resource, transmission, and/or distribution planning as well as other relevant tariff activities.
- Provide oversite and support for:
- EML’s capital prioritization processes
- EML’s Joint Pricing Zone and seams coordination with neighboring utilities
- Interconnections related to EML’s RFPs and other transactions
- EML’s NEM process, DER policy, and associated tariffs
- Participation in targeted DOE or IIJA related partnerships
- Lead and support other various initiatives for EML as needed.
- Strong relational and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, this role is ultimately successful based on the ability to engage with SMEs to drive EML’s priorities and needs.
- Technical background to understand the fundamentals of project drivers, priority, and impacts.
- Transmission planning experience or any type of planning experience can be valuable; specifically, distribution planning experience is becoming more important with shift to OpCo centric model.
- Experience or fundamental understanding of utility regulatory environment and/or MISO (mostly planning and policy aspects)
- Either regulatory or MISO experience would be very helpful – can learn either
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum education required of the position
- Typically requires a college or university degree in related field or the equivalent work experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related preferred
- Master’s degree or MBA preferred
Minimum experience required of the position
- 7+ years related experience required
- Electric utility experience preferred
Minimum knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the position
The ability to innovate and continuously improve is required.

- Establish relationships with the transmission and distribution planning functions
- Support the Power Delivery Planning Road Show meeting coming up in June (discusses this year’s cycle of transmission and distribution planning projects). Involves working with planning and project development teams to scope and estimate proposed project.
