Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their primary work location three times per week, at minimum, or other frequency dictated by the business.

Our Embedded Platforms Infrastructure System Engineering team is a dynamic, high-energy, and innovative group focused on designing the software platform that underpins our electronics architecture including safety, ethernet, CAN, LIN, cybersecurity, memory, programming, and power management functions across our vehicle portfolio.

The Role:

In the Embedded Platform Systems & Infrastructure team, we are focused on developing and delivering our embedded platform with speed and quality.  We are seeking a high-performing Engineering Manager passionate about leading the team to develop boot software as well as core silicon firmware. 

The selected individual will be expected to actively expand the boundaries of innovation, learn quickly, proactively pursue resolving systemic issues of prior architectures, and define the execution path in a quickly changing environment. They will be counted on to provide thought and team leadership, facilitate communication, and inspire passion.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead the development of boot software and core silicon firmware for SDV 2.0 & VIP platforms.
  • Lead team of software developers to deliver integrated and validated boot and firmware solutions.
  • Lead team of project managers to drive development of core silicon firmware by supply base partners through integration and testing by GM HWIO teams which interface via supplier Low Level Software Interface (LLSI) APIs.
  • Monitor and track project progress, providing regular updates to senior management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, engineers, and designers, to define and prioritize software development needs.
  • Drive the adoption of best practices, processes, and tools to ensure efficient and effective software development.
  • Mentor and coach team members, providing guidance and support to foster their professional growth.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in software development, incorporating new technologies and methodologies into project plans.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative team culture, promoting open communication, creativity, and accountability.
  • Recruit, provide people leadership and technical coaching for the reporting team.

Additional Job Description

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelors degree in Computer/Software/Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline
  • 10+ years experience with progressive responsibilities in Software Engineering, Architecture and Agile Framework
  • Experience with C/C++ and/or python software development for embedded systems
  • Strong demonstrated competencies on cloud and digital platforms, CICD pipeline, GIT, Python based processing pipelines
  • Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills; demonstrated ability to work across functional and organizational boundaries
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts
  • Understands business priorities and technical feasibility to prioritize the platform backlog, identify dependencies, and manage risks
  • Ability to jump in and assist script authors to resolve technical blockers

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications): 

  • Advanced degree in Business, Electrical/Software/Computer Engineering/Science
  • Technical expert who has experience building platforms and underlying services for re-use across teams
  • Knowledge in computer networking protocols, architecture & communications
  • Strong comprehension of automotive software development, architecture and AUTOSAR ethernet stack, experience with software bring-up
