The opportunity: 

We are looking for a unique individual to join our Climate Change and Environment Risk team to manage the enterprise-wide implementation, improvement, and refinement of business activities and data collection to support both regulatorily-required climate and nature disclosures and voluntary international standards using science-based approaches.

This role reports directly to the Director of Climate and Nature Risk and will have responsibility in supporting the integration of climate and nature related risks into Sun Life’s approach to Enterprise Risk Management. The ideal candidate is passionate about helping to solve the climate and nature crises and has experience of engaging with multiple stakeholders to support our regulatory requirements relating to climate and nature, while contributing to the design and implementation of Sun Life’s nature strategy.

How you will contribute:

  • Ensure the successful implementation of the Climate Risk team’s strategy, responsibilities, and deliverables.
  • Input into relevant regulatory consultations and external disclosures relating to climate and nature e.g, OSFI B-15 guideline, ISSB, TNFD.
  • Support the program management of funded academic research and nature-based solution projects.
  • Contribute to reports for senior management to inform, recommend, and/or for decision making.
  • Contribute to Sun Life’s thought leadership and advocacy for climate change and nature positivity by tracking global trends and regulatory developments relating to climate risk and biodiversity.
  • Represent Sun Life in industry working groups, and external multi-stakeholder initiatives.
  • Create and provide support of enterprise-wide climate and nature communication materials, including internal communications and external publications and reports.
  • Support the team with evolving climate and nature-related deliverables and projects as required.

Nature specific:

  • Contribute to the planning, design and implementation of Sun Life’s nature strategy through internal education and engagement across the business to socialize the concepts related to biodiversity risks and opportunities.
  • Build a network of champions across the organization to participate in advancing Sun Life’s nature agenda.
  • Support the enterprise-wide assessment of Sun Life's biodiversity activities as related to the TNFD framework.
  • Create and maintain qualitative and quantitative datasets to inform the analysis of nature dependencies and impacts, and the development of a science-based TNFD disclosure.  
  • Engage and drive working group sessions with key stakeholders across the enterprise to integrate nature risks and opportunities into existing business practices.
  • Contribute to the future implementation of TNFD led metrics and science-based targets.

What you will bring with you:

  • University degree or relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in a sustainability related field
  • Expertise in biodiversity and an understanding of the TNFD framework.
  • Expertise in climate change and an understanding of the TCFD framework.
