North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of their customer’s mission. Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-day direction from technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Directors Office has an opening in the Staff Relations Office for a Business Operations Specialist that will provide assistance to the Risk and Insurance Manager. With minimal supervision, the successful candidate will provide professional knowledge and expertise and serve as a risk management advisor for the Laboratory, in the functional areas of loss control, safety, loss prevention, training, claims mitigation/ claims management, and insurance. The successful candidate will assist the Risk Manager with the SCM transitions.

The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Essential Duties

- Assist the Laboratory’s Risk and Insurance Manager with Laboratory-wide loss control initiatives regarding the progress of Laboratory safety culture and awareness, to decrease claim costs and frequency, ensuring strategic deliverables and actions that enable the business requirement of the Laboratory.

- Assist with Laboratory related insurance claims, including worker's compensation, general liability, auto liability claims, and special risk insurance.

-Assist with the SCM contract and insurance reviews and approvals.

- Assist with monthly communication as required on emerging risks and delivery of the required annual reports to the Livermore Site Office Contractor Officer.

- Assists with the compliance of OSHA, federal and state regulations concerning safety related requirements.

- Assist in the general oversight and personal commitment to the goals of Integrated Safety Management, Integrated Safeguards and Security Management, compliance with all ES&H regulations, good business practices, diversity, and equal opportunity.

- Perform all assignments in accordance with ES&H, security, and business practice requirements and policies.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

- Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field or equivalent combination of significant experience and education a related business, operational, and/or organizational area.

- Demonstrated extensive knowledge and significant experience in managing an enterprise workers’ compensation program and application of risk management principles to that program.

- Significant experience applying related applicable federal/state laws.

- Demonstrated superior interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to lead staff through conflict resolution with proven ability to influence across functional lines.

- Experience and success in developing training modules and presenting information to large groups of diverse audiences.

- Experience with project management, statistical analysis, and problem-solving skills.

- Demonstrated knowledge of various software applications.

- Experience working with management in a partnership environment.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

- MBA or other post graduate degree desirable; and ARM, CPCU, or other related professional designations desirable.
