At Stony Brook Medicine, a Facility Operations Assistant 1 – Business Office: performs a variety of tasks:
· Assists skilled and semiskilled trades workers by performing the more routine manual tasks of a trade.
· Carries and holds materials and tools.
· Lifts and places equipment, ladders, and scaffolds.
· Removes materials and equipment in preparation for repair and construction.
· Cleans work areas, cleans, and lubricates mechanical, electrical, and power plant equipment, and assists in operating heating, ventilating, and air‑conditioning equipment.
· Operates and maintains motorized equipment (Hi-Lo) and machinery.
· Assists in operations by performing routine, repetitive activities.
· Answers simple questions, such as the time and place of events, directions, and general information about facilities and usage.
· Moves heavy supplies, furniture, and equipment.
· Loads and unloads heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture from trucks by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck or forklift.
· Moves items to and from storerooms and/or warehouses. May maintain storage areas.
· Moves heavy furniture, office equipment and records.
· Sets up and removes furniture, partitions, and equipment.
· Delivers forms and supplies to various offices.
· Assists in the receiving and shipping of various Items.
· Prepares simple reports.
· Inventory Management and Control.
· Patrol various areas throughout the Facility, which would include all Loading Dock areas, deck areas along with various mechanical rooms to ensure cleanliness and Joint Commission Compliance.
Qualifications
Required: Must be physically able to perform the duties assigned. Possession of a valid New York State driver’s license may be required.
Preferred: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Note, this title was previously ‘Laborer’ and was changed by the NYS Department of Civil Service effective 9/13/2018.
