Job Description
AECOM is seeking a Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineering Summer 2026 Intern to be based in Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA.
This position is expected to begin in May 2026.
We are looking for an enthusiastic engineering student to work as part of our East Region Dams Practice in our Germantown, MD or Conshohocken, PA offices as a Geotechnical Dam Safety Engineering Summer 2026 Intern. We are seeking a candidate who has a strong interest in Geotechnical Engineering and Dams. This position will support a variety Dam Engineering projects across the East region. The successful candidate will join the ENR consistently ranked #1 Dams and Reservoirs firm and will have access to exciting career opportunities.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Providing support for projects including design, analysis, inspection, construction observation, and regulatory compliance activities associated with a variety of dams.
Working with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects related to dams and other hydraulic structures.
Flexibility and willingness to travel for project work part time as needed.
Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis/interest in Geotechnical Engineering and must have completed at least three years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Strong desire to learn and a professional drive.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Knowledge of MS Office Programs. Capable of functioning with spreadsheets, word processing, and standard office software.
- A strong sense of commitment and a desire to work in a dynamic deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to travel for project work part-time as needed.
- Familiarity/capability in relevant Geotechnical Engineering software programs such as Geostudio and gINT.
- Knowledge of dam engineering concepts through coursework or work experience.
- Experience in AutoCAD.
