The Student Development Team develops, implements, and manages programs within Operations that enhance the leadership and professional skills and the capstone experiences of student employees. This role aims to prepare students for their future careers by providing them with valuable professional development opportunities, mentorship, and hands-on experience. The team works closely with various university departments, faculty, and external partners to ensure that student employees are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in the workforce.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Development and Implementation:
- Design and implement programs that focus on the leadership and professional development of student employees.
- Create workshops, seminars, and training sessions that cover topics such as communication skills, leadership, team-building, time management, conflict resolution, problem-solving, and employee development.
- Collaborate with department supervisors to identify the developmental needs of student employees.
- Provide coaching and support to student managers in their professional growth, ensuring they gain relevant experience and skills for their careers.
- Monitor and assess the progress of student employees and student managers, providing feedback and recommendations for improvement.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of student employee development programs through surveys, feedback, and performance metrics.
- Prepare reports on program outcomes, student progress, and areas for improvement.
- Use data to continuously improve and adapt programs to meet the evolving needs of student employees.
Administrative Duties:
- Manage the budget for student employee development programs.
- Oversee the scheduling, logistics, and promotion of workshops and events.
- Maintain records of student participation and program outcomes.
Qualifications
- Have experience creating curriculum and training employees in a professional environment, OR
- Significant and progressive management experience, OR
- Successfully completed BUSM 391: Project Management, OR
- Successfully completed BUSM 457: Training & Development.
Proven ability to get work done with minimal direction and motivation. You need to come to work with your own motivation and not need extensive direction on every little thing that needs to be done.
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, and administration.
Passion for student development and a commitment to preparing students for professional success.
