The Storytelling team works to expand the organization’s impact through journalism, photography, film/video,, mapping, and data visualization. As one of the largest funders to individual storytellers in this work, it also identifies key grantmaking, and fellowship opportunities with creative talent. Much of the team's programmatic activity is focused on identifying and building capacity for the next generation of storytellers.


At National Geographic Photo Camp, a diverse group of young people from under-resourced communities learn how to use photography to tell their own stories, explore the world around them, and develop deep connections with others.
World-class National Geographic photographers provide students with a personalized, immersive learning experience, inspiring the next generation of storytellers. Then, through intimate presentations in their own communities and public exhibitions that reach millions of viewers, National Geographic Photo Camp showcases the students’ perspectives on issues that are important to all of us.

Reporting to the Photo Camp Director, the Production Manager for Photo Camp is responsible for event production and logistics coordination for Photo Camps worldwide. The Production Manager supports the implementation of this program’s strategy by managing event and travel planning, budgets, contracts, and logistics related to the program’s operations.

Responsibilities Include

Production Operations (50%)

• Pre production planning and implementation of the operations for Photo Camps including student registrations, contracts, expense reports, vendor payments, visas, and travel assistance as needed for program staff and other contractors.

Production Event Support (40%)

• Provide on-the-ground logistics support and event production during National Geographic Photo Camps. Extensive travel required to domestic and international 5 - 7 day Photo Camps off campus.  Serve as the NGS contact between the students, community liaisons, and partners for each Photo Camp.

Communications Support (10%)

• Provide support as needed for development of presentation materials on Photo Camp projects for both internal and external stakeholders, in collaboration with NGS internal Communications team and other members of the Storytelling team. 

 

Educational Background

Bachelor’s degree preferred. With education and experience in the areas of event production, logistics management, or related field.

 

Minimum Years and Type of Experience

• 5+ years working in a production or logistics environment. 

• Proven track record of coordinating multiple initiatives simultaneously.

• Experience designing presentations, working with photographic and video assets, and coordinating multifaceted activities a plus.

 

Necessary Knowledge and Skills

•  Strong event production and organizational skills.

• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills; collaborative team player

• Self-motivated and inquisitive.

• High degree of proficiency in using Microsoft Office, AirTable, and Keynote applications.

The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.

The salary range for this position is $74,100 - $78,000.
