The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air, land, and water. Our work impacts every aspect of people's lives and is critical to the health and wellbeing of our residents and visitors. MassDEP is the lead agency for safe management of toxics and hazardous materials, promotion of waste reduction and recycling, preservation of the state's wetlands and coastal resources, air quality monitoring and pollution reduction, and so much more.

MassDEP is seeking applicants for the position of Environmental Analyst III.  Under the direct supervision of the Section Chief for the Bureau of Water Resources in the Northeast Regional Office or other staff of higher grade, the candidate in this position will serve as an EAIII in the Wetlands Program and will be responsible for performing the following duties:

• Evaluation of permit applications, project plans and specifications; inland and coastal wetland delineations; wildlife habitat analyses; coastal and inland floodplain analysis; engineering, hydrological and soils reports.  Provide correct and consistent interpretation of Program policies, guidance, and practices, review permits, reports, and other correspondence for accuracy prior to issuance.
• Perform permitting, compliance and enforcement activities, including participating in site inspections; investigating complaints, permit violations and other incidents; conducting site visits for SOCs, SDAs and 401 WQCs; providing technical assistance to municipal officials, applicants and other state agencies; preparing comments on MEPA filings or other pre-permit consultations; and conducting enforcement actions.
• Ensure that all permits assigned, and compliance/enforcement matters are tracked and reviewed/approved or otherwise acted upon in accordance with applicable regulations, guidance and policies.
• Participate in pre-application meetings in the regional office, and with MEPA and other local/state/ federal agencies.
• Coordinate with other local, state, and federal agencies regarding permitting, compliance and enforcement of projects permitted under the Wetlands Protection Act and Section 401 and 404 of the Clean Water Act.
• Participate in meetings with stakeholders, members of the public, municipal/state/federal representatives about issues within the scope of the Wetlands Program.
• Participate in regional or departmental initiatives.
• Perform other duties and related work as assigned.
