Head of Global Claims

Location: Flexible (U.S. or Global HQ)
Reports To: Chief Risk Officer / General Counsel

Overview

A leading, diversified real estate investment, development, and operating platform is seeking a Head of Global Claims to architect and lead a best-in-class, centralized claims function across its global portfolio.

This executive will be responsible for transforming a fragmented, reactive claims environment into a proactive, data-driven, and strategically aligned operation that protects enterprise value, reduces total cost of risk, and enhances stakeholder outcomes across all asset classes.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to build and institutionalize a global claims strategy from the ground up within a complex, multi-asset real estate environment (commercial, residential, industrial, mixed-use, and development).

The Head of Global Claims will:

• Design and implement a centralized claims operating model
• Establish governance, consistency, and reporting across regions
• Partner cross-functionally to influence risk mitigation, legal strategy, and insurance program design
• Leverage analytics and technology to create transparency and predictability in claims outcomes

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Develop and execute a global claims vision and operating framework
• Align claims strategy with enterprise risk management and business objectives
• Serve as the senior advisor to executive leadership on claims exposure, trends, and mitigation strategies

Claims Transformation & Process Design

• Assess current-state claims processes across business units and geographies
• Build a standardized, scalable, and centralized claims infrastructure
• Implement best practices in claims intake, triage, reserving, adjudication, and resolution
• Introduce KPIs and SLAs to measure performance and drive accountability

Total Cost of Risk Optimization

• Partner with Risk, Legal, and Finance to reduce frequency and severity of claims
• Identify systemic issues and implement preventative strategies
• Influence insurance program structure (retentions, captives, carrier selection)

Vendor & Partner Management

• Oversee relationships with TPAs, insurers, brokers, legal counsel, and adjusters
• Establish performance standards and accountability frameworks for all external partners

Data, Analytics & Technology

• Build a data-driven claims function leveraging dashboards and predictive analytics
• Implement or optimize claims management systems and reporting tools
• Deliver actionable insights to senior leadership and operating teams

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with:
  • Development & Construction (builder’s risk, defect claims)
  • Property Operations (liability, tenant-related claims)
  • Legal (litigation strategy and settlement)
  • ESG/Safety (incident prevention and compliance)

Team Leadership

• Build and lead a high-performing global claims team
• Establish regional leadership where appropriate
• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement

Candidate Profile

Experience

• 15+ years of progressive claims leadership experience within:
  • Large real estate platforms
  • Insurance carriers
  • Brokers or TPAs supporting complex portfolios
• Proven experience building or transforming a claims function at scale
• Deep expertise across:
  • General liability
  • Property claims
  • Construction defect and builder’s risk
  • Environmental and catastrophic loss

Leadership & Influence

• Executive presence with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders
• Experience operating in highly matrixed, global organizations
• Track record of driving change in decentralized environments

Technical & Strategic Capability

• Strong understanding of insurance structures, captives, and risk financing
• Experience leveraging data and technology to drive outcomes
• Ability to connect claims activity to broader business and financial impa
