Weatherization Energy Auditor & Quality Control Inspecter

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector assists with the implementation of a broad range of energy conservation programs by conducting comprehensive energy audits of residential properties, client education, and communication with contractors. Other responsibilities include generating work orders, answering client and contractor inquiries, and communicating with funding sources. Works directly with Weatherization Director.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES: 

• Directly supervise the non-QCI certified Weatherization Energy Auditors projects and sign of on the projects utilizing their BPI QCI credentials following program guidelines.
• Conduct Energy Audit at clients’ homes according to prescribed format including:
• Performing various technical tests – Blower door, status pressure, heating system efficiency, CAZ testing, etc.
• Assessing and documenting the condition of the thermal envelope.
• Educating the client whenever possible to obtain energy savings.
• Determine areas of possible health and safety dangers.
• Installing some energy savings products such as light bulbs, and low-flow devices.
• Metering appliances for possible replacement.
• Performing energy savings functions such as water temperature turn down.
• Choose properties from the Fuel Assistance database to be audited according to certain priorities.
• Communicate with clients and schedule appointments.
• Write work order specifications for the contractor(s) chosen to perform the work.
• Review the billing received from the contractor against the bid prices and the actual work performed.
• Inspect the work to check for conformity with the work order, the bill, and the accepted weatherization requirements.
• Assure the client’s folder has all the proper paperwork required by the funding sources and agency requirements.

Requirements

Experience:

• · Three years of experience with all phases of residential construction including masonry, carpentry, plumbing, electrical and energy related measures and the principles of house-as-a-system.
• · Ability to assess and troubleshoot all types of residential heating and water heating systems.
• · Proficient in the use of a blower door, infrared camera, and combustion analysis equipment.
• · Ability to plan work and schedule assignments.
• · Ability to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
• · Proficient in MS software products with strong computer skills, including the use of spreadsheets. Familiar with TREAT energy modeling software.
• · Basic accounting skills and understanding of budgeting. 
• · Working Knowledge of Code Enforcement practices and provisions of the BOCA Code and general provisions of Minimum Housing Standards Ordinances; ability to write detailed specifications for residential rehabilitation.

Education:

• · High school diploma or equivalency credential. Post secondary education in the building trades preferred.

License/Certification:

• Successful completion of criminal record check.
• Certifications or training in BPI Building Analyst, EPA RRP, OSHA 10-hour training, LSW, and BPI QCI certification (must obtain within 6 months of hire).
• Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation to be used in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position; and meet insurance requirements.
