2025 Summer Analyst – Roles and Responsibilities

We are looking to hire an Intern for our Commercial Finance team, in the Direct Lending group. We are an industry-leading provider of asset-based loans and priority loans to middle-market businesses located in the United States and Canada. Our internship will provide the candidate with opportunities to learn about the portfolio management and underwriting process within Ares. The candidate will be provided with an introduction to asset based lending principles beginning with collateral monitoring, including understanding a borrowing base formula, understanding, identifying, and tracking collateral trends, collateral reconciliation and verification; relationship management, including daily correspondence with borrowers, team members, and senior management; and an introduction to credit principles, including financial statement analysis, credit due-diligence strategies, loan documentation and portfolio management. Role responsibilities include:

  • Assisting Underwriters and Business Development Officers with the evaluation of new credit opportunities including assessing historical and projected financial performance, analyzing collateral coverage and general credit assessment

  • Assisting Credit Officers with daily portfolio management, risk assessment and credit modification requests

  • Assist senior team members with the preparation of Investment Committee presentations and Excel-based credit workbooks

  • Helping to review collateral reporting package for accuracy, trends, and adherence to lender guidelines on a portfolio of secured revolving credit loans

  • Participating in on-going communication with fellow team members, customers, their customers, and Ares senior management

Qualifications

  • We are looking for self-motivated, astute individuals with a passion for and interest in investments. In addition to strong analytical skills and comfort in a fast-paced team environment, successful candidates should have:

  • An outgoing personality with a strong desire to be a contributing team member

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Strong mathematic proficiency with an interest in finance and accounting

  • Ambition to learn the trade and grow within the organization

  • Ability to focus on routine tasks in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment

  • A strong grasp of Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook

Candidates for the 2025 Summer Analyst Program:

  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, ideally majoring in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration

  • Have an anticipated graduation date between December 2025 and August 2026

  • Have a track record of academic excellence and participation in campus activities

Location: Atlanta, GA; Chicago, IL; Tarrytown, NY

Duration: 10 weeks

Compensation: Paid Internship - the total base salary (subject to change) is expected to be $80,000 (prorated over 10 weeks)
