About the role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Tax Manager, ensuring compliance with all tax regulations related to our hospitality operations.
This position will be based at our Corporate Headquarters in McKinney, TX (Dallas Area)
The Tax Manager will oversee the preparation of sales and use, and occupancy tax returns for our portfolio of hotels, as well as managing the tax licensing process for newly onboarded properties as well as tax audits.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Manage Tax Compliance: Oversee the preparation and timely filing of sales and use, occupancy, and other related tax returns for all hotel properties. Oversee and document the training of property level staff.
- Issue Resolution: Serve as the escalation point for tax issues and inquiries, providing solutions and guidance.
- Audit Management: Lead and manage tax audits, ensuring accurate and compliant responses to tax authorities.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance tax processes to ensure efficiency, compliance, and accuracy.
- Tax License Management: Ensure new hotel properties obtain the necessary tax licenses, including overseeing the setup process.
- Coordinate the filing and payment of real and personal property taxes and ensure deadlines are communicated and met.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in tax management, with a focus on sales and use, and occupancy in the hospitality industry or a similar field.
- Strong leadership and team development skills.
- Excellent knowledge of multi-state federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
- Experience with tax audits and working with external tax preparers.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in tax and accounting software.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and, most particularly, Excel advanced skills required
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
