PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision) of Associate Director of Safety, Risk and Sustainability, the Waste Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will assist with meeting the zero waste by 2030 goal, as defined as a 90% diversion from landfills. The Waste Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will educate and empower campus to understand the waste system, proper sorting techniques, how to dispose of “harder to recycle” waste, and ways to reduce waste generation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The Waste Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will educate and engage the campus community about waste management. The coordinator will use data, stakeholder feedback, and best waste engagement practices in higher education to determine relevant content and methods to disseminate that content. This may include, but is not limited to, presentations, workshops, hands-on projects, tabling, and virtual events.
- The Waste Outreach and Engagement Coordinator is responsible for developing educational content to educate campus regarding best practices for waste management and integrate sustainable principles into the university’s policies and practices.
- The Waste Outreach and Engagement Coordinator will collect, analyze, and audit waste data to contribute to continuous improvement and prepare engagements that reflect the current campus waste system.
