Department Overview
The men and women of Electric Operations ensure the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to our customers. Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E’s electric distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, asset management, business planning, restoration and emergency response.
Position Summary
The Construction Manager, Expert oversees construction and improvement projects in the Electric Transmission and Distribution system. Supports field-focused teams of employees and contractors to ensure compliance with the California Public Utility Commission (CPUC) General Order (GO) 165, 95, and 128. You will be responsible for identifying contract worthy projects, consult on project feasibility and project site details, coordinate with construction crews, oversee project inspectors, and on a project specific basis perform construction oversight.
The successful candidate will ensure all Electric projects within the PG&E territory have executed contracts, appropriate scope of works, construction documents, funding and program approval prior to start. The successful candidates will need to have a strong background in distribution Electric construction, contract management and cost accounting. This role will report to the EO, Construction Management Superintendent and work closely with Workstream Representatives on improvement efforts.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although, we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.
Must also be Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) experience.
A reasonable salary range is:
Annual Minimum: $120,000.00
Annual Maximum: $190,000.00
Job Responsibilities
- Applies broad expertise to work on projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management with a high degree of knowledge and ability.
- Works closely with Project Managers and Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.
- Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed.
- Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, Gas Operation Supervisors and Inspectors while assisting with change orders if needed.
- Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions and attends 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering to provide constructability input.
- Leads formal job walk downs with Project Managers and/or Gas Operation Supervisors to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss schedule and target dates.
- Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.
- Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program’s safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilizes workload management database, updates any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract.
- Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor’s plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value.
- Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction workflow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.
- Acts as Incident Commander and PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes.
- Oversees the Inspection of the construction work. Coordinates the work of field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.
