The role of the Senior Data Scientist is to identify and capitalize on opportunities to improve business performance through development of algorithms and decision support systems that provide recommendations for business decisions. Some of the areas of focus include Sales/Marketing, Revenue Management, Inventory Management and Operations. The Senior Data Scientist develops solutions that must integrate with applications developed within the broader Enterprise Data Analytics team. Successful integration often requires collaboration with various partners and stakeholders in the business including Sales/Marketing, Revenue Management and IT.

How You'll Shine:

  • Development of new models and associated reporting – the Senior Data Scientist will use programming languages and data science techniques including machine learning, technical forecasting and optimization to develop descriptive, predictive and prescriptive algorithms and decision support systems. They will follow a process that includes business requirement development and data analysis, solution design and development, and solution testing and implementation. The Senior Data Scientist will require some supervision but generally work on relatively complex parts of projects.
  • Maintenance of existing models, reports, processes and environments – the Senior Data Scientist will use programming languages and data science techniques to handle standard operational maintenance of models and associated reports, as well as troubleshooting, fixing issues and user support.
  • Consultation with clients and management – the Senior Data Scientist will work with clients to discuss business needs and potential solutions, gather requirements for solutions, and provide advice around solution implementation and usage.
  • Business Analysis – the Senior Data Scientist will utilize programming languages and data science techniques to develop business analyses, data extracts, forecasts, information graphics and reporting to answer questions and drive actions for the business.
  • Other duties as required– the Senior Data Scientist will spend time learning new technologies, conducting job-related training and performing administrative duties.


Travel Requirements:

  • Very occasional travel (approx. 1x / year) may be required


What You'll Bring:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Data Science/Statistics or related fields
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as related to data science
  • Basic to strong understanding of multiple business knowledge domains and the ability to apply technical knowledge to them
  • Ability to take direction from Manager and more senior analysts
  • Ability to assist and mentor more junior analysts as required
  • Strong programming skills including data extraction and preparation
  • Detail orientation and organizational skill for model production and statistical analyses
  • Good communication skills for day-to-day operations with team/clients and business partners
  • Strong R and/or Python skills, including general understanding of common analytics-oriented packages/libraries
  • Strong experience with SQL and experience working with databases
  • Training and substantial experience in predictive modelling/machine learning (logistic regression, decision trees, random forests, time series analysis and forecasting, clustering techniques, etc.) and/or mathematical optimization techniques including linear programming, integer programming, MIP, etc.
  • Familiarity with AWS/SPARK or other advanced analytics environment is preferred
  • Five (5) years’ experience with data science/predictive modeling, system development and testing


Experience equivalent to the education requirement may be accepted in lieu of the education requirement
