Job Description
Kleinfelder is seeking an experienced and dynamic Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CMT) Senior Transportation Project Manager to support and drive growth in Utah’s transportation market.
Kleinfelder is poised to expand our Utah team and is actively seeking the right candidate to support this effort. This position is primarily responsible for project management, business development, supervision of well-trained inspection/testing staff and CMT professionals, collaborating with our professional staff, and actively working with clients to deliver repeat business of complex programs/projects.
The successful applicant will have the ability and desire to build strong client programs and project teams while working collaboratively to fulfill the firm's needs and provide technical support and leadership. Additionally, the successful applicant will have knowledge of the local transportation construction industry and the demonstrated ability to lead and develop programs.
This applicant will engage local staff to execute the Construction Services business plan, provide consistent, high quality, professional Construction Materials Engineering and Testing (CMT) and construction support services in accordance with Kleinfelder guidance principles (mission, vision, values) and commensurate with expectations established for quality, risk management, profitability, client service, safety, and timely delivery.
Position Responsibilities:
- Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take an active role in the development of business with new and existing clients. Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.
- Through a combination of excellent technical delivery and business development, capitalize on existing client relationships to expand market share in the local markets, while servicing national/global clients, as necessary.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously within scope, schedule, budget and ensure quality is achieved on project deliverables.
- Serve as a construction project manager (owner’s representative) for transportation projects by managing and overseeing construction of roads, highways and bridges to assure quality and safety.
- Maintain accurate daily record of construction site activities and produce required reports on progress, safety, quality, schedule and budget status.
- Recommend project-related decisions based on assessment of construction performance and progress relative to contract requirements.
- Prepare documentation in support of contract change orders or modifications.
- Provide consistent, professional services in accordance with quality, risk management, profitability, client service, safety, and timely delivery.
- Provide technical oversight associated with construction materials testing and special inspection services.
- Provide supervision to a team of inspectors and technicians, evaluate, and guide their performance, and assist them in their professional development and growth.
- Oversee all phases of project delivery including initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing.
Experience:
- Minimum 10+ years of construction services experience with an emphasis on CMT services, 5+ years of project management experience and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations required. 2+ years supervisory/management experience required.
- Marketing, proposal writing and fee development experience.
- Previous experience in materials testing and soils lab supervision or management.
- Proven project management experience working closely with clients.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to lead project teams and mentor and develop staff.
- Knowledge of special inspection requirements, field-testing procedures and laboratory testing procedures required.
- Knowledge of the Utah transportation market.
- Active ICC, WAQTC, ACI, PCI, and AISC certifications desired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and MasterWorks.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in the following engineering disciplines: Civil, Geological, Construction, , or Materials Engineering desired.
Work Environment:
- Work locations include construction sites, laboratory facilities, offices and field offices with regular exposur
