Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $47,000.00 - $71,750.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

What you will be doing

Job Title: Senior Research Technician

Location: Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), HSS Institute for Biological Sciences

Research Focus: The HSS Center for Regenerative Medicine (CRM) Translational Laboratory aims to identify and study new treatment options to improve their effectiveness. The Laboratory is part of the HSS Institute for Biological Sciences, and studies patient- and treatment-specific factors aiming to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms that contribute to the activity of regenerative medicine treatments, and its impact in clinical outcomes.

Reporting to: Dr. Miguel Otero (direct laboratory supervisor: Dr. Purva Singh)

Liaises with: Research and Clinical staff, Research Administration, vendors

Position Summary: The Senior Research Technician will work in multidisciplinary studies that require biospecimen processing and analyses, performing experiments involving cell isolation, flow cytometry, nucleic acid isolation, and mammalian cell cultures. The Senior Research Technician is expected to work independently, interacting with Dr. Purva Singh, and is directly responsible for the maintenance of the CRM Biorepository, and for the daily functioning and maintenance of the laboratory space and equipment, including training and oversight of researchers who require access to the CRM facility. The Senior Research Technician will attend weekly meetings, maintain logs for reagents, biospecimens and ongoing and completed projects, and will contribute to reporting, data interpretation and analyses, and to the preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Process biospecimens, and maintain the CRM Biorepository

• Conduct experiments interacting with Dr. Purva Singh and other CRM Lab staff

• Collect and analyze experimental data

• Maintain detailed electronic laboratory notebooks

• Order laboratory supplies

• Maintain lab organization

• Oversee and maintain laboratory space and equipment and provide basic training and oversight for HSS staff who need access to the CRM facilities.

• Liaise with investigators and Hospital staff, including phone calls, email communications, or videoconferencing.

• Carry out clerical and technical tasks, including maintaining stocks and sample logs

• Take an active role in data interpretation, generation of reports, presentations, and manuscripts 

• Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment

• Participate in laboratory meetings

Minimum job requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or equivalent is preferred

• Experience with molecular biology and tissue culture techniques preferred

• Technical proficiency and ability to work both independently and as part of a team

• Ability to learn new tasks following detailed protocols and instructions
