eSimplicity seeks a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and hands-on experience in Radio Frequency (RF) engineering and Radio Access Network (RAN) design and optimization. This role requires a deep understanding of wireless communication systems, including 4G LTE and 5G NR. The Senior RF/RAN Engineer will play a critical role in providing analytical support to one of our government clients. This includes generating coverage prediction maps, coverage data analysis, propagation model verification, drive test and crowdsourced data analysis, link budget analysis, and infrastructure data review.
Core Skills:
RF Systems Proficiency:
- Hands-on experience with RF components functions including radio receivers, transmitters, antennas, filters and their applications.
- Knowledge in wireless receiver and transmitter specifications, including sensitivity, intermodulation, noise figure, SINR requirements.
- Familiarity with various antenna types (omni, panel, cross-polarization), MIMO configurations (2x2, 4x4, massive), beamforming techniques, and related specifications (gain, beamwidth, pattern) and deployments.
Advanced Wireless Technologies:
- Extensive experience with multiple wireless technologies including 5G, 4G, 3G, Fixed Wireless, Wi-Fi (802.11), and Satellite RAN, covering principles, architecture, design, analysis, optimization, and deployment.
- Knowledge of 3GPP standards for 4G-LTE and 5G-NR and familiarity with IEEE 802.11 family technologies.
- Comprehensive skills in wireless network architecture (e.g. 5G-NR SA & NSA), network design and planning, including capacity planning.
- Familiarity with wireless link budget parameters and calculations (e.g. fade margin, receive sensitivity, interference margin, spectral efficiency).
- Experience with wireless network optimization and deployment including drive testing requirements and configuration, test tools setup (e.g., XCAL, NEMO, and TEMS), data collection and processing, and network parameter optimization.
Practical experience with wireless network design tools:
- Expertise in using radio planning tools, preferably Atoll, for coverage and interference studies.
- Knowledge in terrain and clutter data analysis as they impact wireless coverage.
- Expertise in applying and tuning propagation models using real-world drive test data.
- GIS and data analytics:
- Skilled in using GIS software, particularly QGIS, for mapping and spatial analysis.
- Strong abilities in analyzing wireless network data, including predicted coverage, drive test, and crowdsourced data.
- Proficient in data analytics and visualization tools such as Excel and Power BI, and capable of scripting in Python and SQL for data manipulation.
Soft skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including effective presentation capabilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7 or more years RF/RAN Engineering Experience. 1-3 years of practical experience within each defined area.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
- Formal training in 3GPP-based wireless technologies, radio wave propagation, radio access, and core network architecture and system design (please specify source of the training and any associated certifications)
Working Environment:
This position is 100% in-person in Annapolis Junction, MD; remote or hybrid work is unavailable.
