Description

Emory University’s Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (DFPM), with support and recognition from the School of Medicine (SOM), is offering a leadership opportunity for the Vice Chair of Research of a vibrant, collaborative portfolio.

The DFPM at Emory University is composed of five divisions (Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Palliative Medicine, Student Health, and the Physician Assistant program). Each division/program is led by a director, and together with the other vice chairs in DFPM, the Vice Chair of Research will be an engaged member of the DFPM’s leadership team. Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Palliative Medicine have ACGME-accredited residency / fellowship programs. The DFPM is situated in the SOM and has close and active ties to Emory Healthcare, the leading academic health care system in Georgia.

DFPM’s research portfolio includes projects that are patient-oriented, clinical, translational, behavioral, health services, or in public health and related sciences. More details about the research faculty and programs can be found here. From 2019 to 2026:

  • Research-intensive faculty grew from 5 to 16 individuals (with an additional 5 highly-productive adjunct faculty members);
  • Grant awards expanded from $1.1 million to over $4 million annually;
  • Peer-reviewed publications grew from 21 to 187 annually.

Based on these successes, the department was ranked 23rd nationally (FY24 Blue Ridge Rankings) among departments of family medicine. It is anticipated that the selected candidate will build on this platform and offer and implement a strategic vision for collaborative culture, growth, productivity, and impactful science in the DFPM.
