Position Overview:
The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites well-qualified candidates to apply for the position of Assistant General Legal Counsel. This position is based out of our Chicago office and advises our Operations Counsel/Ethics Officer on the course of action on diverse legal issues confronting the Board from outside law enforcement agencies as well as compliance with State laws and the Illinois Police Training Act. It also assists the Operations Counsel/Ethics Officer in the administration and implementation of policies concerning the processing of legal inquiries, subpoenas, documents, records, and regulations to ensure that staff handles and processes documents within legal restraints and confidentiality requirements. The Assistant General Legal Counsel researches, consults with, and offers advice to agency human resources and management staff, and other necessary State agencies relative to the legal aspects of personnel matters. This position offers assistance to the Chief Counsel and Operations Counsel/Ethics Officer in the drafting of legislation, resolutions, administrative rules, and amendments pertaining to law enforcement and corrections officers, Board funding or other law enforcement related issues. This position conducts and directs confidential investigations pertaining to the decertification of law enforcement officers, including those convicted of a felony/misdemeanor. They also assist in tracking and reviewing newly proposed legislation affecting the Police Training Act.
